Barn Owl Populations and Monitoring
Barn Owl Tyto alba Survey Methodology and Techniques for use in Ecological Assessment

The primary objectives of surveying are to document a species' presence/absence; and/or determine the species'distribution and abundance.

To meet the statutory requirements and obligations of national and international wildlife law, a consistent standard for ecological assessment appropriate for the protection and conservation of barn owls is required.

This guidance focuses on these surveying objectives and provides information for ecologists, developers, planners and the statutory and non-statutory organisations, which are often required to review and consider the findings and recommendations of protected species surveys.
